SANTA TERESEA, NM - More than five hundred participants and companies from Mexico and the U.S. have registered to participate in the 2011 NAFTA Institute/Supplier Meet the Buyer conference, which will take place on Thursday, June 16 at the Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino in Sunland Park, New Mexico. The International Business Accelerator is the conference organizer.
“The large interest generated by this conference demonstrates the significance of the New Mexico border region and its economic impact on our state,” said New Mexico Economic Development Secretary-designate Jon Barela. “In the coming years, I believe that the border region will play not only a vital role in New Mexico’s economy but also for the nation.”
The conference will start at 8:00 am and end at 5:30 p.m. During the event, topical experts will be discussing the various aspects of conducting cross-border business, including: Union Pacific’s $400 million Santa Teresa project, the Foxconn San Jeronimo project, trade and border security, the proposed Sunland Park/Anapra border crossing, the future of the maquiladora industry, and international trade resources. A cocktail mixer with live music will take place after the last conference presentation.
In conjunction with the conference, organizers have scheduled business-to-business (B2B) sessions for approximately 200 participating companies, including
35 purchasing managers of maquiladoras such as Peugeot Automotive, Vishay, Tyco Electronics, Siemens, Crayola, Lexmark, Sumitomo, Yazaki, A.O. Smith and
Continental. The purchasing managers have provided the International Business Accelerator with lists of the production inputs they are seeking to source including plastic injection, metal stamping, packaging, logistics, printing, pallets, fasteners, machinery maintenance, and raw metals. Private meetings will be arranged for
companies that can supply these production inputs with the purchasing managers.
In addition to these major manufacturers, a wide variety of buyers/suppliers have registered for the B2B sessions in areas including: logistics, contract manufacturing, chemicals, plastics, tool & die, consumer products, computer systems, legal services, automotive accessories, security services, real estate, industrial machinery and tourism, among others.
The cost to participate in the conference is $99, which includes the conference meal, materials, access to the general B2B sessions, and all conference presentations. Special hotel rates for conference participants have been arranged with area hotels.
